Kerala Culture and Heritage

The culture of Kerala is a combination of both Indian and Dravidian culture. The culture of Kerala has developed over the past millennia, influences from other parts of India and abroad. It is defined by its antiquity and the organic continuity sustained by the Malayali people. Modern Kerala society took shape owing to migrations from different parts of India and abroad throughout Classical Antiquity.

This culture and heritage of Kerala is reflected in its various art forms, of performing arts like Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, martial Art of Kalaripayattu, dresses, the people and cuisine. When in Kerala do not miss a cultural art performance. Each of the festival in Kerala is celebrated with all its pomp and grandeur. The main festivals of Kerala include Onam, Vishu, Eid, Thrissur Pooram and many more.

Ayurveda in Kerala is an alternative medicine system with historical roots of 2000 years. It is an established ancient treatment for rejuvenating your body and mind.

The culture of Kerala can be traced back to as long 5000 years. Being the state with the highest literacy rate and education level in the country, the Kerala society has moved from its agricultural background. Although Kerala remains fairly liberal in its outlook and open to modern ideas, and technological changes, the State largely remains conservative on social issues

It is a holistic approach grounded in principles of empowerment, human rights, inclusion, social justice, self-determination and collective action.

Samanwaya Support Network

We all go through difficult periods in life. Having supportive people to count on can make the difference in managing those difficult times. Research has shown that having good social relationships contributes to improved psychological and physical well-being. In particular, social support can serve as a protective factor with newcomers, immigrants, and groups such as the elderly who have declining health and cognitive abilities, individuals with mental illnesses and those marginalized due to a disability, race, gender or sexual orientation. Samanwaya is a place where you can develop and maintain adequate social network of people who you can talk, spend time with, ask for help and feel supported.
